Beijing Olympics 2008

As you already know, Beijing is the host city for the 2008 Olympic Games which begin in September 2008. It is possible for you, as an international citizen, to attend the Beijing Games but time is running out to secure tickets to the most popular events so you need to act hastily as you do not want to miss out.

Traditionally the most popular Olympic events, and thus the hardest to get tickets to, are the athletics, swimming and gymnastics, particularly the finals. Many of these are in fact already sold out, however you can still get tickets to most events.

There are a few things you'll need if you are coming to Beijing from another country to watch the Olympics:

Many companies are offering tour packages incorporating Olympic tickets and Beijing tours. You can for example get a full day of sightseeing plus tickets to some Olympic Games events in the evening. This way you get to see Beijing itself as well as the Olympics.

The best mode of transport to take during the Olympics is the Subway (indicated by large blue "D" signs) and taxis. This system is being set up to handle the huge influx of visitors expected at this time.

You should try and get accommodation as close as possible to the Olympic venue or venues that you will be attending. In some cases you may be able to walk to the event, saving money and time on public transport costs.

The Beijing Olympics are sure to be an exciting time for all. As long as you have planned everything in advance, you should have no unexpected surprises or disappointments when it comes time to travel and see the world's greatest sporting event.
